This mad mad ice

February 2019, a full year after conquering the wilds of Mongolia. The most insane — and simultaneously the most dangerous — rally in Siberia: self-made Mad Max style cars on the frozen Lake Baikal at minus 20 degrees.

A team of 25 fearless adventurers and a supporting cast of 80 were divided among seriously gnarly Land Cruiser and Toyota Tundra rigs, all souped up and ready for action — plus enduro motorcycles and ATVs.

Tearing across the ice all day long

The team started moving out early from the Baikal Dunes tour base. Lunch was served on the move, and by evening they hit the shore to party. But the real excitement was snow karting — tiny machines on a giant frozen lake. If you could handle the twists and turns, it was one hell of a ride.

Seeing an orchestra play on Lake Baikal is an unforgettable experience: the sound of the piano echoing off the lake's surface is truly breathtaking.

Cosplay, stupas, hot springs

Over the next few days there were cosplay photoshoots, visits to Buddhist stupas, heated yurts to sleep in, and hot springs to soak in. And let's not forget the rock concert and dance shows.

When it was all said and done, the crew lit up the sky with a grand fireworks display that would've made the Fourth of July look like a sparkler. This was one adventure they wouldn't soon forget.
